Sonya Viney is an artist working in the expanded field of ceramics. Her practice focuses on concept and contextualising clay multiples. Recent work presents as site specific installation in response to collections or place. As an emerging artist she has exhibited in London, Oxford and the Midlands with a commission for The University of Nottingham on public view adjacent to The Museum of Archaeology.

PRACTICE
Sonya Viney graduated from De Montfort University with a first class honours in Design Crafts (2011). She was awarded three graduate opportunities to exhibit her work, New Designers, Fresh- British Ceramics Biennial and Young Meteors at Lustre. Since then her ceramics have been exhibited in renowned Craft events and exhibitions. Recent practice moves towards concept and response to collections and place. In this context she has been commissioned to make a site-specific installation for The University of Nottingham and awarded a New Collaborations bursary from a-n The Artists Information Company.
EDUCATION
Sonya's background is the education sector in a variety of roles including lecturing in Further and Higher Education. As an external panel member she has selected artists for the AA2A - artist in residence scheme for De Montfort University 2013 and 2015. Since graduation she has combined her practice with a technical role in Further Education. She is currently studying for a Fine Art MA at De Montfort University, Leicester.
